The Mutual Benefit Life Insurance (MBLI) Company, based in Newark, N.J., was chartered in 1845. In July 1991, the Company was seized by the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance after losses in an overheated real estate market, and was liquidated and dissolved in June 2001.
